I call myself a Positive Wellbeing Educator. Through my past experience, from childhood till now, I’ve worked on myself. I actually wrote a book on growing up in a not so nice environment on the south-side of Chicago in the 60’s and 70’s. It’s titled Awful-ly Happy and brings in childhood experiences, along with science and ends every chapter with a self-help section.
These experiences, coupled with my B.A.and M.A. plus my Certified Teacher Education ties in with my current research. I have three studies on the table, one with the well-bing of Yemen displaced refugees and the other with Ukrainian refugees. My ultimate goal is to eventually understand what “having to leave your country” has to do with wellbeing. Ultimately, my passion is to discover how we can help them…
that’s truly my mission.
How has being a part of ISQOLS benefited your work or research?
Well I have to give so so much credit and appreciation for Jill. Back in 2023, I asked to give a webinar through ISQOLS titled,Self-Compassion in These Changing Times. Here it is:https://isqols.org/event-5422266
More recently, I offered a workshop at the upcoming Beyond The Bluegrass conference in Kentucky. My offer was accepted!https://isqols.org/2026precon
Finally, my first published research paper was with Martijn Hendricks and my current papers are supervised with Martijn Burger. Both are part of ISQOLS and my supervisors and they both were/are very helpful and have taught me so so many professional research skills and expertise.
My research most closely relates to the following SIGs:
Mental Health & Psychological Well-Being and Cultural and Ingigenous Models of Well-Being
